Batla House is a 2019 Indian Hindi language Action Thriller film written by Ritesh Shah and directed by Nikkhil Advani. The film stars John Abraham opposite Mrunal Thakur. The trailer released on 10th July 2019 and the movie released in theatres on the occasion of Independence Day i.e. 15th August 2019 along with another film that is Mission Mangal.

The plot of Abraham’s Batla House is based on the Batla House encounter case that took place in Jamia Nagar in Delhi in 2008. This encounter claimed the lives of two alleged terrorists who were responsible for multiple bombings all over the country. In the story, Sanjeeb struggled a lot to catch the fugitives and prove the police acted lawfully.

Operation Batla House, this was Delhi Police Special Cell’s shoot out with the alleged terrorists responsible for the Delhi blasts holed up in a flat, in the now-infamous Batla House. This is perhaps one of the most controversial chapters of the Delhi Police as several questions were raised on the arrests and killings, including that of martyred encounter specialist and Delhi Police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma. The operation was spearheaded by then ACP and now DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

The brilliantly choreographed action and chase sequences ensure several edges of the seat moments. Where Batla House falters is in the second half, when the proceedings slacken with the courtroom drama slowing it down further. Despite some clap worthy dialogues making it there. And some of the complexities and nuances are filtered down. Nora Fatehi’s dance number seems a force fit in an otherwise grim narrative, though her character is weaved in well. But there is no doubt this is John Abraham’s film all the way, he is well cast in the role of a committed ACP, who is a man of few words, and arguably gives his career’s best so far. Even his strained relationship with his wife Nandita (Mrunal Thakur) and his internal angst is etched out effectively. It’s an all-consuming role and John Abraham nails the body language and the intensity. Ravi Kishan as Inspector Kishan Kumar Verma and Mrunal Thakur are well cast though Rajesh Sharma as the defense lawyer (in a wig that is an eyesore), comes across as overdramatic.

Story of RAW (Romeo Akbar Walter)-Bollywood Movie:

The film is made by inspiring on the true-life story of Kaushik who was only 21 when he was spotted by the RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) officials at a national level dramatic meet, who approached him to work as an undercover agent in Pakistan. In the next two years, Kaushik was given an intense training where he learned the deadly tradecraft of modern-day spies. During this training, which was both mentally and physically straining, Kaushik learned Urdu and got well-versed in the Muslim religion. At a young age of 23, Kaushik, with a new identity and a new name – Nabi Ahmed Shakir – was sent to Pakistan for one of the greatest espionage missions of India. In Pakistan, Kaushik secured admission to Karachi University where he began studying law. After that Kaushik joined the Pakistani Army and moved up and became a Major. While leading the life of a Pakistani national, Kaushik kept sending classified information to RAW. For his unmatched dedication towards serving his motherland, the then Home Minister of India, S.B Chavan, gave him the title of ‘Black Tiger‘.

When Inayat Mashi caught by Pakistani intelligence, she also revealed all the information about the operation besides revealing the true identity of Ravindra Kaushik. Kaushik got arrested by Pakistan and spent the next 16 years of his life in different jails in several Pakistani cities. Even worse was the fact that the Indian government refused to own him. Such is the life of a spy working for his country. They’re the unsung heroes who never get their due, or better yet, they perhaps don’t even work for the dues. Kaushik’s untold story has inspired many movies over the years, most recently to be reprised by John Abraham in Romeo Akbar Walter.

When John Abraham, the stunner of Action movies acted in trio-roles in this movie, the audience would be uncontrollable. The Action thriller with first initials as RAW has a plot based on espionage in Pakistan. The movie is full of twists and turns and does not fail to surprise us, but at the same time seems complex. At the same time, Alia Bhatt’s “Raazi” film makes a soft corner on the audience’s heart, so the RAW lacked certain points to reach that.
