Story of the Kesari the Bollywood Movie 2019
The plot focuses on Havildar Ishar Singh who led 21 Sikhs against an army of 10,000 Afghans to defend the North-West Frontier Province. The event is considered one of the greatest last stands in history. The film is based on the Battle of Saragarhi, a battle between 21 soldiers of the 36th Sikhs of the British Indian Army and 10,000 Afridi & Orakzai Pashtun tribesmen in 1897. The golden history of this epic battle is known by less and the film was the perfect unveiling the story. The story highlights the war drama enriched with bravery and valor of Sikh Warriors in their Kesari turbans. It also keeps the audience engaged due to patriotism as well as the love for their Motherland.
While the movie is based on the bravery of Sikh soldiers and even mentions at the very beginning that the British depended heavily on the Sikh to guard their troubled borders in Western British India, the movie barely manages to show any new side to the Sikh soldiers that haven’t already been put on screen. The movie attempts to cover too many issues without exploring any in particular. It sketchily weaves in caste bias, masculinity, army-politics duality, secularism, and jihad. These loaded subjects come over and above the film’s core theme of Sikh pride, patriotism, colonialism, and fight for Independence. With Kesari, Akshay Kumar is back to doing what he does best: action. Don’t let the dialogue delivery fool you because Kumar does cut in some spectacular sword and gunfights with ample slo-mo shots to highlight his star status.
